Old School

23 01 2012

So the upcoming Yelp Elite Event got me reminiscing about my high school self. I don’t have many digital pix of those days, but I was able to scrounge up a few from Facebook. Can’t believe my 10-year reunion will be next year – if there even is one. I don’t think people put as much emphasis on those anymore since the advent of Facebook. There’s nothing left to the imagination when you get stupid updates like what Lindsay ate for lunch or that Will checked into Wal-Mart. I can see how lame everyone is (or at least I would if I didn’t already unfriend most of them) without taking the time, effort and money to travel home.

My BFF Christina and I circa 2003

Here’s one of my two high school BFF’s sitting in a booth with me at Steak & Ale in Spartanburg, SC. I was a hostess there part time during junior & senior year. It was exactly like the movie Waiting. Exactly.

This also reminds me that I had a pretty sweet collection of American Eagle graphic tees. It would have been Abercrombie, but we didn’t have one in the mall closest to my house. I still have the pooka shell necklace.

And here’s a pic from my graduation cruise. We enjoyed a family + Christina vacay  to Key West and Cozumel. I learned in college that cruises are much more fun without your parents and after you turn 21. But that’s another story.

Ben & I DZ Formal circa 2004

And this is technically my freshman year of college, but close enough. I’m wearing the sparkly, pink senior prom dress to my first sorority formal with my best college guy-friend, Ben. I was excited to wear heels since Ben was over 6′.

Long story short, in high school, my friend made me go to prom with this guy she had a huge crush on. He was shorter than me even though I wore flip flops and he had a half-pipe in his backyard. The car ride to take pictures with our friends was a bit awkward, so I asked if he had any music. He said “Sorry I only have this Linkin Park CD,” and I was like “Are you kidding, they’re my favorite band!!!” I almost punched him in the face when he was surprised and said he thought I was ‘into Britney Spears and shit like that.’

I am happy to add that I still have the dress in my closet at home and it still fits!
